Welcome Home.
Nebraska Zen Center/Heartland Temple is a Soto Zen Buddhist community dedicated to the practice of meditation, study, and the cultivation of compassion and wisdom in our lives and in our community.
We are a refuge, where people of all backgrounds can learn about Zen Buddhism, practice in fellowship with others, and pursue the project of awakening.
Nebraska Zen Center is one of the oldest Zen communities in the United States, founded by Dainin Katagiri Roshi in 1975. We have been in our present location in Omaha’s Bemis Park neighborhood since 1992.
The Zen Center is open for in-person practice. We offer Sunday Open Zen, both in person and online via Zoom, and daily morning zazen Monday through Friday. You can find more information about our practice offerings, retreats, and classes by exploring the Events tab above and by subscribing to our weekly newsletter.
Open Zen | December 22
Rev. Shinkyu Brian Coté
On Sunday, December 22, Shinkyu will share a dharma talk for Open Zen via Zoom.
Before your mind
starts to work and
you want to run away,
accept every moment
as an opportunity
presented to you
to practice
facing reality
as it really is.
–Dainin Katagiri Roshi
