Hakuin’s “Song of Zazen” Retreat With Busshō Lahn

About 250 years ago, Zen master Hakuin wrote a teaching poem about meditation and called it “The Song of Zazen.” He describes zazen as nothing short of the expression and assurance of our own original enlightenment, the divinity at the core of our humanity. This simple but profound poem has much to teach us, and we’ll spend the day exploring some of its offerings.

Expect a relaxed atmosphere and the optional opportunity to meet briefly with the teacher. We’ll do some chanting as well as plenty of zazen. Busshō will give a talk designed to facilitate deeper engagement and discussion.

Rev. Busshō Lahn is a Zen monk, spiritual director, and the guiding teacher of Flying Cloud Zen Spiritual Practice Community. He also serves the Minnesota Zen Meditation Center, the Aslan Institute, and the Episcopal House of Prayer.

Bussho recently published a book, Singing and Dancing Are the Voice of the Law: A Commentary on Hakuin’s “Song of Zazen.”
