Roso Faces the Wall: Practicing with Family

For many of us, family can feel like an obstacle to our practice, a kind of koan, or wall put in front of us. What shape does “practice” assume when we are with our family – our parents, siblings and/or children? In this Dharma talk we’ll explore ways of understanding what practice is, how we can practice with our family members. Rev. Daishin McCabe will be joining NZC by Zoom from Ames, Iowa to share a dharma talk on practicing with family.

Rev. Daishin McCabe is a dharma heir of Dai-en Bennage Roshi, with whom he studied in monastic residence for 15 years; he has also practiced in Japan at several training temples and with Thich Nhat Hanh in France. Daishin has a B.A. in Religion and Biology from Bucknell University. He has trained as a behavioral health chaplain and facilitates the healing of trauma TCTSY (Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga). He teaches World Religions at the Des Moines Area Community College and at the Shogaku Zen Institute and is also grateful to be a member of the Pure Land of Iowa community.
